The Howard Theatre Community Committee announces

“The Howard Theatre Community Day”

WHEN: Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11:30 am

WHERE: The Howard Theatre plaza, 620 T Street NW, Washington, D.C.

The Howard Theatre raises its curtains after a $29 million renovation
and a 30-year hiatus with an opening day to celebrate with the
community who contributed to the historic legacy, rebirth, and future
of the theatre. Schedule (below) includes: a ribbon-cutting ceremony
with Mayor Vincent Gray and the Honorable Eleanor Holmes-Norton;
dedications of statues and live entertainment from local D.C. talent.
Limited tours of the theatre to the public will be given on a
first-come, first-serve basis.

The Community Day celebration will kick off opening week of the Howard Theatre, which includes a ticketed fundraising gala, and the start of the performance roster, beginning 4/13.

Wale will perform the first concert at the newly restored Howard Theatre at 9:00 PM on 04/09/12.

This event is open to the public; cameras will be welcomed at the celebration.

12:05 pm: Duke Ellington Statue unveiling/dedication (statue by Zachary Oxman)
